Jewish tradition holds that a cemetery is a
sacred place for a Jewish community to consecrate and maintain.
For this reason, the founders of Barnert Temple established Mount Nebo Cemetery.
Named after the site of Moses’ death, Mount Nebo Cemetery occupies 22 acres of land. Diverse elements of nature, including the surrounding woods, wildlife and a stream that traverses the property, provide a uniquely serene and rustic setting for sacred burial ground. A stroll through the cemetery marks a journey through our synagogue’s rich history, as it is the final resting place of Barnert Temple’s namesakes, Nathan and Miriam Barnert, as well as clergy, lay leaders and generations of congregants. Mount Nebo is also honored to serve many Jewish non-members and their families.
If you need immediate assistance due to a death in the family, you may contact the Temple office at (201) 848-1800.
