L'TAKEN: TEENS REPAIRING THE WORLD

Get Ready for a Life-Changing Trip to Washington, D.C.

Friday, January 31 - Monday, February 3, 2025

- Register by November 22, 2024 -

L'Taken is a remarkable four-day program through the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC) that gives teens in grades 10-12 a chance to explore their views on social justice and learn how to lobby and impact our country as they share their views on social justice topics with decision-makers on Capitol Hill.  It gives our teens an incredible opportunity to meet with their legislators, learn how to advocate for causes they are passionate about, and meet approximately 400 other Jewish teens from across the country!  It's truly a once in a lifetime experience!

We feel so strongly about the value and importance of this experience, we are committed to making it possible for any eligible Barnert teen to participate in this program.  Please contact Jess and Ethan Greenberg if you have any concerns or questions about the financial or time commitment associated with this program.

Who is eligible to participate?

This opportunity is available to Barnert teens in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade who have been part of Confirmation, Post Confirmation, or BarTY, or have worked as a macrich/a in our JJP program.  Barnert has 15 spaces in the program this year.  As space is limited, we encourage you to reserve your spot if you plan on coming.

When and how long is the trip?

Friday, January 31 through Monday, February 3, 2025.  The trip is a full four days, which means you will be missing two days of school.  Click here to download the RAC's letter requesting an excused absence.  Rabbi Steiner is also willing to speak with the appropriate administrator at your child's school if necessary.

Where does L’Taken take place?

In beautiful, exciting, electrifying Washington, D.C.!

How will we travel to and from Washington, D.C.?

We will be traveling via Amtrak and coordinating with two other temples - Temple Emeth (Teaneck) and Temple Beth Tikvah (Wayne).  We are working with the other congregations to finalize these details.

Are there special preparations or obligations leading up to the trip?

Participants are expected to be part of one prep session with Jess, Ethan and Rabbi Steiner before the trip.  Dates and details TBD.

Can I see a sample itinerary and answers to other FAQs?

Of course!  Click here to visit the RAC's L'Taken family information page.

How much does this amazing experience cost?

The full cost of the trip is approximately $900.  This amount covers the program fee, hotel, six meals, transportation, and supervision.  If your child wants to participate but finances are an issue, please speak to Jess, Ethan, or Rabbi Steiner privately.  Our goal is to make this experience possible for any Barnert teen who wants to participate.
