Marina Voronina | Cantorial Soloist
Born in the Soviet Union, Marina grew up knowing her family was Jewish but had little understanding of what this meant. Music has always played a large role in her family and once, visiting her family in Leningrad, she remembers listening to a cassette of old Jewish songs. While it was not the melodies she grew up hearing, the music completely mesmerized her and she knew that this was the music she was meant to sing. In 1990, her family immigrated to the United States and settled in Long Island.
Presently, Marina divides her time teaching music at The Village School (a private Montessori school in Waldwick) and various singing engagements. Most recently, she has served as a cantorial soloist at Temple Israel of New Rochelle and Selah in Stamford, CT. Marina received her Bachelor degree in Music from Brandeis University and Master degrees in Voice Performance and Music Education from The Eastman School of Music. Marina lives in Glen Rock with her husband and three children.
Because her grandparents and parents were deprived from fully practicing their religion, Marina is especially honored to lead the Barnert congregation in song and help instill a strong foundation for the Jewish tradition.
