UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN BEHAVIOR BEHIND THE HOLOCAUST PROGRAM     01-13-2010

BARNERT TEMPLE PRESENTS

“WHY THEY DID WHAT THEY DID:
UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN BEHAVIOR BEHIND THE HOLOCAUST”

On three Wednesdays in January, Barnert Temple presents “Why They Did What They Did: Understanding the Human Behavior Behind the Holocaust,” a three-part series taught by Master Educator, Sharon Halper. The classes run from 7:30 to 9 pm on Wednesday, January 13, 20 and 27. The classes will cover such topics as:

* How did history and propaganda enable Adolf Hitler's rise to power?

* What was the life of a Jew like during this time of trail and extermination?

* Why did some people risk their lives to save Jews from the Nazis while others stood by and did nothing?

In these classes Master Educator Sharon Halper will bring history to life. Using the personal narratives of the people who were there, she will lead an exploration of the human behavior, community dynamics and social context that shaped this dark and defining chapter of the 20th Century.

Sharon Halper has spent 30 years in Jewish Education as a teacher of children and adults, synagogue school director, teacher trainer, writer and consultant. Her areas of specialty include creating family programs and tzedakah education. Her publications include: Holy Days, Holy Ways (URJ); B'Shivtecha B'Vaytecha (a year-long program of family Torah study — Torah Aura) and To Learn is To Do (URJ).

This program is free of charge and open to the public. However, donations are welcome. For more information about the event or about joining Barnert Temple, contact Alice Kintisch, membership liaison, at (201) 848-1800.
